Matchday one of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League is in the books and after three days of intense competition, this is what the table looks like.
The UEFA Champions League has undergone a major revamp, with 36 teams now competing under one table during the league stage of the competition. All 36 teams will play a total of eight matches - four at home and four away - and the 24 highest-ranked teams at the end of the league phase will qualify for the knockout stage.
Bayern Munich lead UEFA Champions League table after matchday one
As it stands, Bayern Munich find themselves at the top of the CL table following their 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb. Celtic, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and Aston Villa also claimed big wins on matchday one of the league phase, and complete the top five.
The biggest surprise of matchday one happened on Thursday, as AS Monaco stunned Hansi Flick's in-form FC Barcelona and claimed a 2-1 win. Manchester City also failed to get the three points as they were held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan.
At the end of eight matchdays, the top eight teams will directly qualify for the round of 16, while teams placed from 9-24 will compete in a two-legged playoff in order to make it to the last 16.
Matchday two of the UEFA Champions League will take place on October 1 and 2; and four of the top five teams in the standings will go head to head. Borussia Dortmund will go up against Celtic at the Westfalenstadion, while Bayern Munich will take on Aston Villa.
