Pre-Match Analysis: Borussia Dortmund host VfB Stuttgart in Niko Kovac’s first match in charge

BVB’s recent record against last season’s runners-up is terrible, but perhaps a new manager can reinvigorate the Black-and-Yellows to achieve their first home win of the year.

Borussia Dortmund – LLDWW – 11th: Niko Kovac will begin his tenure without the services of Felix Nmecha, who remains out with an ankle injury. Niklas Süle has begun training again, but his return is in question as he comes back from an injury. Niko Schlotterbeck will be unavailable through red card suspension. Both new signings, Daniel Svensson and Carney Chukwuemeka, should be available on the matchday squad, though their participation will likely come from the bench.

VfB Stuttgart – WLLLW – 5th: Sebastian Hoeneß’s side bounced back from three consecutive losses with a Quarterfinal cup win over FC Augsburg midweek to secure a place in the DFB Pokal semifinals. Hoeneß will likely be missing several key personnel, including Luca Raimund, Justin Diehl, El Bilal Touré, and most notably, Enzo Millot and Dan-Axel Zagadou. In addition, Josha Vagnoman and Justin Diehl remain in doubt. Even with these injuries, Stuttgart’s squad is chock full of talents like Deniz Undav, Angelo Stiller, Maximilian Mittelstaedt, and goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.
