Pre-Match Analysis: Dortmund seeks first win of 2025 against Shakhtar Donetsk

Mike Tullberg and Borussia Dortmund face a difficult task as they hope to win the UEFA Champions League league phase. A win could see BVB finish in the top eight, but it will ultimately depend on other results.

Julian Brandt and Serhou Guirassy: We haven’t seen either player’s best yet this season, but there were promising signs from both in the draw against Werder Bremen. Julian Brandt looked more comfortable in the number 10, while Guirassy netted his first goal from open play since November. If Tullberg is able to get the best out of these two, then they could become a reliable goal threat.

Kevin & Mykola Matviyenko: Kevin, the young Brazilian who signed from Palmeiras last year, has found impressive form lately. He’s fast on the wing and scored the opener for Shakhtar against Brest. He’s likely to make life difficult for Tullberg’s choice of right-back. Meanwhile, club captain Mykola Matviyenko will likely guide the team’s back-line in preventing Dortmund from scoring. The veteran defender shouldn’t be overlooked.
