Pre-Match Analysis: Resurgent Borussia Dortmund head to St. Pauli with a purpose

Borussia Dortmund will look to replicate their superb form from last weekend as they walk the famed “Gates of Hell” in St. Pauli on Saturday.

St. Pauli might be in a lower-league position than Dortmund, but they have everything to play for. Their squad isn’t known for their attacking exploits, and they will have likely studied Dortmund’s win over Union Berlin last weekend, so I fully expect St. Pauli to park the bus and counterattack, making Dortmund’s approach frustrating to watch.

I think that Carnay Chukwuemeka will feature after his promising performance as a substitute last weekend. If Brandt is still injured, the Englishman could showcase his skills. We could also see Niklas Süle again after Niko Kovač recently praised the German.

Overall, this will be a difficult match for Dortmund, especially with the expectations placed on them after last weekend’s monumental win. But Kovač seems to be instilling a gritty attitude into his players, which I believe will help them grind out this result as a 1-0 win.
