Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up Borussia Dortmund midfield lynchpin Felix Nmecha.
The Magpies consider Nmecha, a member of Germany's 2026 World Cup squad, as a potential direct replacement for club captain Bruno Guimarães who is on the verge of joining Premier League champions Arsenal in a move reported to be worth 75 million pounds.
No indications point to an official bid having been sent Dortmund's way by Newcastle yet, who finished 12th in the Premier League last season and recently appointed young German manager Matthias Jaissle as Eddie Howe's replacement at the helm.
Should a transfer be sanctioned, Dortmund will demand a hefty fee for their prized 25-year-old midfield asset. Reports note that the cost of a move could be upwards of 100 million euros.
Dortmund's negotiating position is boosted by Nmecha's long-term contractual commitment to the club until June 2030, and his recent features in a more prominent role within the German senior set-up. He has picked up six of his 12 international caps in 2026 and took part in all four of Germany's matches at this summer's World Cup. Nils-Ole Book, BVB's sporting director, recently poured cold water on the potential summer switch, calling a transfer "extremely unlikely."
Nmecha himself appeared to affirm his commitment to Dortmund in late July, and looks set to take on the challenge of being a leading figure at the Signal Iduna Park in the upcoming season. He has been at Dortmund since July 2023 after joining from VfL Wolfsburg.
During thr 2025-2026 season in which Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga and reached the knockout playoff phase of the Champions League, the former Manchester City academy product scored five goals and contributed three assists in 42 games played across all competitions.
Whether Dortmund's No. 8 is ultimately tempted to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Lukas, who plays for Leeds United, and make the switch back to a Premier League club from the Bundesliga will remain to be seen during the latter half of the summer transfer window. Nmecha was involved in the first half of Dortmund's most recent friendly, a 1-0 win against FC Tokyo, as the club wrapped up its tour of Japan as part of ongoing pre-season preparations.
Dortmund is back in pre-season friendly action against Arsenal on August 9. The club will kick off its 2026-2027 campaign with a DFL-Supercup tilt against Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, on August 22.
