25-year-old German international Felix Nmecha has extended his contract at Dortmund by a further two years until June 2030.

The midfielder has been a crucial part of the team since his 30 million Euros move from Wolfsburg. Nmecha has put on consistent performances and starred in big games to help his side achieve their targets.

Nmecha took a while to get used to things at Borussia Dortmund but once he started putting on consistent performances there was no looking back.

Perhaps Nmecha’s crucial goal in the 1-0 win against Newcastle United at St. James’s Park in the group game of the 2023/24 season was an indication of good things to come.

Nmecha spent time at Manchester City’s academy before going to Wolfsburg. He then honed his skills in the Bundesliga before making the big step up to Borussia Dortmund.

There has been plenty of reported interest from English clubs regarding acquiring the talented midfielder. The fact that Borussia Dortmund managed to hold on to the player is crucial for the progress of the team and as they look to rebuild the squad after the likes of Niklas Süle and Julian Brandt will see their contract end come summer.

Nmecha has the ability to hold on to the ball, dictate play and make crucial passes. He is the engine that runs the Dortmund midfield. Making him stay is a no brainer for Dortmund.

"BVB’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl offered a testament to Nmecha’s ability stating : “After a spell of bad luck with injuries at the beginning of his time here in Dortmund, Felix has become a very important part of our team. His ability to cover ground and overcome opponents makes him extremely valuable to us at the centre of the pitch. He always finds creative solutions, even when under pressure.”"
"Felix Nmecha stated: “I have had many great experiences with this club and its fans over the past few years and am very grateful for the club's trust. I want to repay that trust by giving my best for Borussia Dortmund.”"
"“He’s at a good age, slowly reaching his peak,” Nico Kovac said of the 25-year-old. “He does a lot of things well, but he can still become more of a goal threat. He has good dribbling, good vision, and a powerful shot,” Kovac continued, describing him as “an absolute gem as a person.”"

Borussia Dortmund look to have started the task of building their team for the coming years. After the news of Brandt leaving, now Nmecha has been tied down to two more years. If the Black and Yellows are to be challengers for Bayern and win trophies crucial decisions such as this are important.
