Seven South American young stars Dortmund should keep tabs on
Julio Soler (19, LB, LanĂşs):
The first name on the list aims to solve an issue in a position that has been an ever-present question mark for Dortmund. Since the departure of Raphaël Guerreiro, the Black-and-Yellows have struggled to find a successor to the Portuguese international at left-back. Ian Maatsen looked like a solution to that problem, but the club decided to pursue other options once negotiations with Chelsea put the Dutchman beyond their reach financially.
Ramy Bensebaini is the only senior option in the squad, barring Julian Ryerson, who also plies his trade at right back. The Algerian is still trying to fully convince the club that he is the man for the job. With many ifs and maybes at left-back, Borussia Dortmund could undoubtedly use the talents of Julio Soler. The Argentinian prodigy from LanĂşs is only 19 years of age and a joy to watch on the left flank.
Soler is mainly known for his speed and creativity driving forward, which makes him a fascinating weapon at any coach's hands. His crossing skills and vision are also powerful qualities, but his defending needs refining. Despite that, he has improved a lot defensively this season, completing 1.73 tackles, 2.25 interceptions, and 1.95 blocks per 90, as per FBref.
He is not only an unquestionable starter at his club LanĂşs but also played for the Argentinian Olympic team that competed at the Paris Olympic Games this summer. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is around 6 million euros, which would be a bargain for a talent like Soler.
