Seven South American young stars Dortmund should keep tabs on
Federico Redondo (21, CDM, Inter Miami):
Federico Redondo could potentially be an interesting option to play in that number six role at Dortmund, especially considering all the uncertainties regarding the position. With captain Emre Can struggling so far this season and Felix Nmecha starting to pick up the pieces of a sub-par debut season, the number 6 position could use some more competition.
Redondo is a very talented defensive midfielder. Son of the legendary footballer Fernando Redondo, Fede has been viewed as one of the greatest potential talents in South American football in the past few years. Many scouts compare him to Sergio Busquets' archetype. He provides flow to the midfield and impresses with his press resistance, scanning, and good positioning, filling the role of a tall and multi-function regista.
Fede surprised many as well when he opted to transfer to Messi's Inter Miami in February this year. As there was much speculation about a move to Europe, Inter Miami went ahead and paid an eight million euro fee with an additional 15% sell-on clause for the youngster, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Even though Transfermarkt values Redondo around eight million euros as of today, a transfer to Europe could present a risk, considering the inflated price tag and lack of minutes in a higher-level league.
It might be a risk worth taking, however, primarily due to Fede's high ceiling and improvement curve, as his FBref numbers suggest. Other but older options on a similar profile would be Juan Nardoni from Racing Club and Ezequiel Fernández from Boca Juniors, both of whom are 22.
