With Borussia Dortmund’s extensive injury list putting an immense strain on the squad as we move into November, it is likely that the club will consider making some moves in the next two transfer windows to alleviate some of the stress put on the squad. Among the positions under strain is now the attacking midfield role. German international Julian Brandt has been forced to play excessive minutes because of the departure of Marco Reus and the chronic injury history of Gio Reyna, which has seen his performances dip likely in part due to lack of competition and fatigue.

According to reports, Dortmund may look to remedy this by adding some young depth to the position. Per Caught Offside, the club has been monitoring Sevilla youngster Stanis Idumbo as a possible reinforcement.

Idumbo has only recently broken through with the Spanish club’s first-team, but has long been regarded as a talented player. It is no surprise then that many other clubs, including Barcelona, Brighton, Everton and Aston Villa could also be keen on his services.

Of course, with so much registered interest, especially from the Premier League, there could be a bidding war for his services. It remains to be seen just how high Sevilla’s valuation of the player may be, so in the case that the sum is still affordable, Dortmund may have the edge in terms of prospective playing time.

Whether Dortmund should make a move for the player comes down to a couple factors. Firstly, Dortmund need to establish the profile of player they want to bring in, meaning whether they want more of a raw talent like Idumbo, or a more established player to compete with Brandt. Then of course there is the aforementioned financial aspect to take into account; as in, what sort of player will Dortmund be getting for the money they are spending?

Idumbo, as of now, has registered one goal in four appearances in La Liga. If he continues to impress and build on his performances, he may end up an actual option for Dortmund or one of the other named clubs to seriously consider as we get closer to the winter break. What is very clear however is that Dortmund should add some depth in the position that can more concretely challenge Brandt, and most importantly stay fit enough to do so.
