Emre Can as a certified starter will have consequences

I understand that Emre Can has had seemingly good performances recently and is suddenly having a resurgence at the club following conflicts regarding performance and leadership. However, I think it is all a severe misjudgment. You can watch him and see crunching challenges and real warrior moments. But, until goals are conceded as a result, you overlook his severe carelessness with the ball and his vulnerability.
To me, I see why people can appreciate Can. His tenacious, aggressive, front-footed approach is impressive to watch when it goes right, and it indeed gets fans riled up. But there is too much risk in this approach for your 31-year-old captain to live by it. Meanwhile, summer signing Waldemar Anton is left rotting on the bench. Believe me, I get he hasn't been amazing either, yet he still provides much more consistent and efficient progression from the back while being more methodical in his approach. Not to mention, Schlotterbeck is being hindered by Can's bulldozer style.
I'm not saying that he must never touch the pitch again, but to have him play 630 minutes out of a possible 630 since Kovač has been hired seems like a ticking time bomb, just waiting to explode. However, I understand that he will continue to stick with him for now, but I stand firm in my view and would like to see the Schlotterbeck - Anton duo have a proper chance.
