Maxi Beier needs to play more in central areas

Maxi Beier had an underwhelming first half against Lille, as that left side of the attack looked more like a liability than a threat to the opponent. That happened mainly because Beier played like a left-winger, which is a role that deprives BVB of depth since the young German does not possess the speed or dribbling abilities to take up his man with consistency.

However, in the second half, Beier explored more central areas while allowing Ryerson to expand the field as a true wingback on the left side. This position takes the best out of Beier, exponentiating his link-up play abilities and spatial awareness. That new dynamic resulted in an alleged assist to Guirassy in winning the penalty call and Maxi's banger from outside the box that ultimately decided this match.
