Borussia Dortmund have only two Bundesliga games left, and they can cost the Black and Yellows their whole season. With a chance to reach European football and a real shot at the 2025/2026 Champions League, BVB might salvage their season following an inconsistent run during the current campaign, which was mainly mid-table.
If luck did not always help Borussia Dortmund for most of this season, the past good run of performances has proven to have shifted that luck around. Having picked up 16 points in their last six Bundesliga matches, Niko Kovač has put Borussia Dortmund in pole position for the Champions League.
According to Opta Data, Dortmund now has the best odds to qualify for the Champions League next season, which is fair to say many fans have given up on that a long time ago. The supercomputer initially gave BVB a slim margin of 6.5 percent chance of a fourth-place finish; however, after Matchday 32, the Black and Yellows now hold a 45.9 percent chance of finishing fourth in the Bundesliga table, which would boost them to Champions League football.
On the other counter parts to that race, the super computer now gives SC Freiburg a 34.1 percent chance of reaching fourth following their last-minute home draw with Leverkusen. Also, the sixth-place RB Leipzig now has a slimmer 11.2 percent chance of Champions League football next season.
With Dortmund facing Leverkusen away and Holstein Kiel at the Signal Iduna Park next, the Black and Yellows need to guarantee the six points in order to make those odds a reality. However, it won't be easy to face a strong Leverkusen side at the Bayer Arena, while Kiel are vigorously fighting against relegation. Either way, for the first time this season, fans are more hopeful that the outcome will be positive and that the odds will be in our favor.
