DF - Felipe Santana

Most famous for his game-winning goal against Malaga in the 2013 Champions League quarterfinal, Felipe Santana had an unceremonious exit from Dortmund. He moved to rival Schalke and took some verbal shots at Jurgen Klopp on his way out. He played until 2023 in his native Brazil before retiring.
At 39 years old, Santana has gained his B License for coaching under the CBF or the Brazilian Football Federation. He has also mended fences with Dortmund and has been back to the club, playing in legends games and representing the BVB in any way he can.
DF - Marcel Schmelzer
One of the last one-club men in football, Marcel Schmelzer spent his entire career with Dortmund from 2008 to 2022. He served as backup in his later years at BVB before hanging it up after the 2021-22 season.
After getting his coaching license, "Schmelle" began his managerial career in 2023 by being named assistant of Borussia Dortmund II. He's still part of the reserve's team coaching staff, as he continues to learn the ropes of management for his boyhood club.
MF - Sebastian Kehl
Another club legend, Sebastian Kehl, stayed in Dortmund for the rest of his playing career. Kehl retired in 2015 and took a break from football. He returned to BVB three years later and was named players' license department director, as per the club's official statement.
Kehl would remain in that position until 2022, when he succeeded Michael Zorc as Dortmund's sporting director. His tenure has been a hit-and-miss for the club, though some fans are not confident in his abilities to build a squad good enough to win BVB's first Bundesliga title since 2012.
MF - Florian Kringe
Only legends know how important Florian Kringe was in the early years of Jurgen Klopp's managerial career at Dortmund. Kringe would leave BVB after the double-winning season, spending the last three years of his career at St. Pauli. He now works as a staff member for a football agency called PRO Profil.
MF - Moritz Leitner
A once-promising prospect, Moritz Leitner spent two seasons at Stuttgart following the double-winning season. Leitner bounced around, playing for Lazio, Augsburg, Norwich City and Zurich before retiring from pro football in 2022. He now plays in Gerard Pique's Kings League, suiting up for Era Colonia.
