MF - Ilkay Gundogan

Four seasons after winning the double, Ilkay Gundogan wanted a new challenge and was signed by Manchester City in 2016. Gundogan turned into a legend for the Citizens, helping them win 14 trophies in total. He left for free in 2023 to join Barcelona.
However, Gundogan's time at Barcelona wasn't viewed as impactful, and he would return to Man City in 2024. He spent one more season there before moving to Galatarasary this season.
MF - Sven Bender
Bender stayed at Dortmund until the 2016-17 season before joining his twin brother Lars at Bayer Leverkusen. The twins retired from football in 2021, with "Manni" beginning his journey as a manager by earning his coaching license. He's now the current manager of SpVgg Unterhaching in the fourth tier of the German football pyramid.
MF - Shinji Kagawa
Manchester United came calling to Shinji Kagawa after helping Dortmund win the double. However, he struggled at United and returned to BVB in 2014. Kagawa was part of the team until signing a deal with Besiktas midway through the 2018-19 campaign.
Kagawa also took his talents to PAOK in Greece and Sint-Truidense before returning to Japan to play for Cerezo Osaka in 2003. He began his career with Cerezo before Dortmund snapped him up in 2010. He remains part of Osaka's squad.
FW - Robert Lewandowski
A truly remarkable player for Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski turned into one of the greatest strikers in a black and yellow shirt. He left BVB for free in 2014, signing with Bayern Munich and winning a total of 19 trophies there.
Lewandowski left Bayern in 2022 and has been the top striker for Barcelona over the past three years. He's in his final year of his contract with the Spanish giants this season and has been linked to a possible transfer to the MLS in the United States, as reported by Sporting News.
FW - Lucas Barrios
Before Robert Lewandowski was the number one striker at Dortmund, Lucas Barrios was scoring goals for the club. Barrios left BVB after winning the double, paving the way for other footballers to play in China. He has played with at least 13 clubs before settling down at Sportivo Luqueño as a manager in his native country of Paraguay.
