5) Max Beier
Perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the change in system was Beier. The German forward has been somewhat of an enigma in his career so far; is he a winger, or is he a striker. Although there is plenty of time as a young player to find out, it is still a question that has not been answered.
When playing in a front two, it is a mix of both. You are not out on the touchline all game, but nor are you between the posts, with two, or sometimes three opposition central defenders marking you all game.
In this set up, Beier is able to roam around and cause problems with his pace and dynamism - whilst also having wing backs who can cross to his 6'0 or so frame. Having a player with different attributes like Beier does is key.
We saw for the first goal the sort of link up he can have with Karim Adeyemi, with superb one touch play between the two. It will be interesting to see, if this formation sticks, which of the two will be replaced by Serhou Guirassy.
