Borussia Dortmund lost 1-0 to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Wednesday in a surprise result.
Although the Superlaget have picked up big scalps on home turf before, the BVB were still coming off the back of a long unbeaten run.
But head coach Niko Kovac made a strange decision of benching some of his key players and it came back to bite them as Dortmund lacked any sort of attacking firepower for a good 60 minutes until Kovac subbed Serhou Guirassy and others in.
Bodo created the better chances on the night and gave Dortmund plenty to think about, before eventually punishing them for their sluggishness with a goal in the 52nd minute as Fredrik Sjovold finished a lovely cutback from Sondre Auklend.
Dortmund clicked into gear soon after, with Guirassy, Felix Nmecha and Ethan Nwaneri all getting close, but they either missed or had their attempts saved by Bodo's goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.
The defeat pushed BVB down to 18th place on the Champions League table with three points in two games.
Here are some key stats from the clash:
1) Borussia Dortmund failed to score a goal for the first time this season, ending a run of eight consecutive games where they found the back of the net.
2) The loss also ended BVB's seven-match unbeaten run since the 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
3) Dortmund have now lost four of their last five Champions League games, having been beaten by Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan and Atalanta last term.
4) Serhou Guirassy has failed to score in five of their last seven Champions League games, getting on target only against Atalanta in the first leg of their knockout playoffs last season before a brace against Villarreal on the opening day of the current campaign.
5) Borussia Dortmund are the fifth different team that Bodo/Glimt have defeated in their Champions League history, and are the first German side to lose to them in the competition.
6) Since returning from the international break, Dortmund have failed to win both their games so far: they drew 2-2 vs Werder Bremen and lost 1-0 vs Bodo/Glimt.
7) This was also the third time from their last six Champions League games that Dortmund have failed to score a goal; they previously drew a blank against Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan in January.
8) Dortmund's top-scorers Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva, who have bagged four goals each, have failed to score in their last four and three games respectively.
9) Besides Rosenborg, Bodo/Glimt are the only other Norwegian side that Dortmund have failed to beat after playing multiple times; against both these sides, the BVB have drawn and lost once each.
10) Dortmund have failed to win in back-to-back games for the first time since consecutive Bundesliga defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim in April 2026.
