Centre Back: Mats Hummels

It’s still hard to believe that Mats Hummels is a Borussia Dortmund player once again. No one would have imagined even in their wildest dreams two months ago, that this transfer would go through.

But here we are, and Hummels is back in Black and Yellow, three years after he left to join Bayern Munich. As has been stated so many times, Hummels is not coming to Borussia Dortmund to sit on the bench. He is here to lead the team to the Bundesliga title and will want to start most games.

Having him in the side will certainly improve Borussia Dortmund’s defense, which looked shaky at times last season. With Diallo now leaving, the pressure will be on Hummels to prove to his doubters that he is still good enough to play regularly at the highest level, and that Borussia Dortmund were right to make him their record signing.
