Jürgen Klopp left Borussia Dortmund five years ago, ending a seven year spell which played a vital role in shaping the club’s recent history.

Since Klopp’s exit, Borussia Dortmund have four different head coaches, all with different playing styles and tactics. While the Westfalenstadion has become a revolving door, with several players leaving and arriving every summer. Only four players who were there at Borussia Dortmund during Klopp’s final year still remain at the club.

It has been a slow transition back into title contention status for Borussia Dortmund, but it looks like they finally have a team capable of competing.

So we look back at the last five years by comprising Borussia Dortmund’s best XI of the post Jürgen Klopp era.

Goalkeeper: Roman Bürki

Roman Bürki gets into the team by default. The Swiss shot stopper joined Borussia Dortmund just after Klopp’s exit in 2015, and has cemented his status as the club’s first choice goalkeeper in the years since. He has been largely consistent over the course of his 199 appearances, barring the nightmarish 2017/18 season which saw him make a number of high profile errors.
