Michael Zorc: Borussia Dortmund not planning any major leaps in the transfer market

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc believes that there will be “no boom year” for the club as they look to reduce costs.
One of the biggest impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on football has been the financial losses it has caused to clubs across the world. As a result of these losses, experts are predicting a quiet transfer window this summer. Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc does not expect the club to be too busy in the transfer market.
"Speaking to Kicker, Zorc said: “It was a huge effort from everyone to get the league up and running again. We would do well not to take this for granted and continue to display the most extreme level of discipline.”"
Zorc says that it is difficult to make a serious forecast on how the transfer market will develop this summer. He believes that supply and demand could increase slightly in the coming months. But the majority of the decisions will be made late in the window. For now, Zorc and co. are holding back on the expenditure side, as they wait to see how the situation develops.
A lot of Borussia Dortmund’s summer spending will depend on whether or not Jadon Sancho is sold. Before the coronavirus pandemic, Sancho was certain to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. But now the situation has changed, and it remains to be seen if any of the interested clubs will be able to afford the Englishman.
Kicker add that Borussia Dortmund will only think about letting Sancho depart if they receive a fee in the region of a “three-digit million sum”. Clubs that offer less will receive a definite rejection.
The Black and Yellows are under no pressure to sell Sancho this summer, with his contract not due to expire until the end of the 2021/22 season. Sancho has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s star performers this season, and scored his first professional hat-trick last weekend.
