Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus is back in team training after four months off, but it remains to be seen if he will take part in the last four games of the season.
Marco Reus suffered an adductor injury during Borussia Dortmund’s DFB Pokal third round defeat to Werder Bremen at the start of February. Initially, it was thought that he would only be out for four weeks. But after four months of recovery, Reus is finally back in team training.
There has been a lot of mystery involving his injury, with Borussia Dortmund not providing an official update on why Reus’ injury is taking so long to recover from. According to Kicker, the 31 year old is said to have suffered a tendon tear in the adductor area.
Reus is said to have made significant progress in his recovery in the last few weeks. Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre confirmed in his press conference before the Hertha Berlin game that the German international has started working with the ball, albeit individually.
And on Tuesday, Reus made his return to team training for the first time since February. In the coming days, he will continue to train with the team as he gets reintegrated into training step by step. But with only four games to go before the end of the season, it remains to be seen if he will return to action before the end of the season.
Reus’ absence has certainly been felt by the Black and Yellows both on and off the pitch. His quality and leadership has been missed, especially in big games against Paris St. Germain and Bayern Munich.
Reus had 12 goals and seven assists to his name in 26 appearances in all competitions before suffering his injury.
