Roman Bürki has confirmed that he is on the verge of signing a new deal with Borussia Dortmund, saying that he feels “a lot of love” at the club.

It was reported earlier this week that Borussia Dortmund and Roman Bürki’s representatives had found a breakthrough in talks over a new contract. Now the Swiss shot stopper has confirmed that he will be staying at Borussia Dortmund for the foreseeable future.

After keeping his 12th Bundesliga clean sheet of the season during Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bürki confirmed that he will be putting pen to paper on a new deal with the club very soon.

"“I am pleased and hope that we can find a date next week to finalise the whole thing,” Bürki said. “I feel very comfortable here, I have been through a lot with BVB over the years and have always felt the love of the club.”"

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc also confirmed that the goalkeeper will sign a new contract in the coming days.

"“We have reached a final agreement, and will sign the contract in the next few days,” Zorc said. “I am very happy that we will continue to have Roman in goal for us in the coming years.”"

Bürki’s current contract with the Black and Yellows is due to expire at the end of next season. Negotiations over a new deal between the two parties began at the Marbella training camp in January, but were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The delays in talks led to reports that Premier League side Chelsea were interested in signing the 29 year old.

But now it looks like an agreement has finally been found, and Bürki will be signing a two year extension to his Borussia Dortmund contract, which will keep him at the club until 2023.
