Lucien Favre has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund are in talks to sign Real Madrid teenager Reinier Jesus on loan.
Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Reinier Jesus in the last few days, with reports claiming that he is set to join on loan. Now head coach Lucien Favre has confirmed that the move for the 18 year old is “in the pipeline”, although its not a done deal just yet. The 62 year old went on to heap big praise on Reinier, and compared him to Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry.
"“This is another very young player on loan from Real Madrid,” Favre said. “We want to borrow him. But it’s not done yet. It’s in the pipeline. He’s a nine-and-a-half, and can also play as a false striker and on the wing. From what I’ve seen, he’s very good on offence, and a very, very good finisher.”"
Reinier joined Real Madrid in January for a fee in the region of 30 million euros after enjoying his breakthrough at Brazilian side Flamengo. He has yet to make his first team debut for the La Liga champions, but will be a member of the first team squad at Borussia Dortmund. He is likely to be used as a back-up for Marco Reus, and a replacement for Mario Götze who left on a free transfer this summer.
Favre was speaking after watching his Borussia Dortmund side score eleven goals past Austria Wien in their second pre-season friendly of the summer. Ten Dortmund players found the net, including Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna, and Jude Bellingham.
The Black and Yellows will now return to Dortmund and continue their preparations for the start of the new season. They will be back in action on Saturday with a double header against Feyenoord and MSV Duisberg, and if the Reinier deal gets over the line before then, we could see him make his Dortmund debut in one of those two games.
