Thomas Meunier (5.5/10)

Meunier put on a much improved display today, but still wasn’t good enough especially when considering the attacking threat Raphael Guerreiro posed on the opposite flank. There were far too many overhit and misplaced passes, and it was clear that the cohesion and understanding is simply not there yet between Meunier and his teammates.

He did force a save from Müller in the first half with a shot from the edge of the box. But he burned an excellent counter attack in the second half with overhit cross when he had so many Dortmund players to pick out.

Axel Witsel (6.5/10)

Witsel was at his dependable best today, completing all but two of his 80 passes. He dealt with Freiburg’s pressing really well, and was always looking to get forward and join the Dortmund attack. He did miss a golden chance in the second half though, when he skied Gio Reyna’s cross from close range.

Jude Bellingham (6/10)

Bellingham was aggressive and full of energy as he led his side’s pressing. When on the ball, he made the right decision on the majority of occasions, but he also lost possession a few too many times. His second half cross for Reus showed great quality, and deserved an assist.

Raphael Guerreiro (6.5/10)

Guerreiro was heavily involved in the first half, and some of his interplay was a real treat to watch, and nearly resulted in excellent team goals. His quality on the ball was on display in the first half, but he became less of a threat after the break. He is still getting his match rhythm back, and hopefully we will see him at his very best after the international break.
