Erling Haaland will be available for Borussia Dortmund this weekend after getting the all-clear from the Dortmund health department.

There were doubts about Erling Haaland’s status for this weekend’s game against Hertha Berlin after the Norwegian authorities told him that he must remain in quarantine for ten days after traveling back to Dortmund, as one of his teammates had tested positive for COVID-19. The quarantine was due to end on Sunday, but now the Dortmund health department has given him the all clear to play in Borussia Dortmund’s game against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

The Dortmund health department explained (H/T: Kicker) that after detailed questioning with Erling Haaland, they gathered that the 20 year old was not in close contact with Omar Elabdellaoui, the Norway player who had tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, they see no reason to issue a quarantine order against Haaland. And thus, the striker is free to play for Borussia Dortmund against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether the Norway health authorities will take any action against Haaland if he does play on Saturday. They had earlier threatened to impose a fine and even a prison sentence, and Ruhr Nachrichten reported on Monday that he could face a fine of 2000 euros.

Having Haaland in the squad for the tough away game against Hertha Berlin will certainly be a big boost for Borussia Dortmund. The 20 year old is the Black and Yellows’ leading goalscorer this season, with 11 goals to his name in 11 appearances in all competitions.
