Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has won the 2020 Golden Boy award following his exemplary performances since the start of last season.

Erling Haaland has been scoring goals for fun over the last 18 months, and he has been rewarded for his excellent run of form with the Golden Boy award, which is given by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The award is given to the best player aged 21 or younger playing in a top flight league in Europe. Haaland is the second Borussia Dortmund player to win the award after Mario Götze, who won the 2011.

The winner of last year’s award was Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, and Haaland beat out competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, Barcelona winger Ansu Fati, Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden and several other talented youngsters from across Europe.

Haaland’s win is certainly well deserved, as the 20 year old has proven himself to be one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe. He has scored 55 goals in just 51 appearances for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund since the start of last season. For the Black and Yellows, the Norwegian international has found the net 27 times in 29 appearances. He also has six assists to his name.

Haaland’s form has attracted the attention of a number of big clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City and Juventus. But his father Alfie said earlier this week that Erling is happy at Borussia Dortmund, and is not looking to leave anytime soon. The striker has four years remaining on his contact with Borussia Dortmund.
