Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel has been sacked by Paris St. Germain after a disappointing start to the season.

Thomas Tuchel’s time at Paris St. Germain has come to an end after the former Borussia Dortmund head coach was sacked on Thursday. His departure comes less than 24 hours after PSG’s 4-0 win over Strasbourg in their final Ligue 1 game of 2020. The Parisians made the decision to part ways with the trainer after a poor start to the season left them in third place in the Ligue 1 standings going into the winter break.

PSG managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League round of 16, but Tuchel paid the price after suffering four league defeats in the first half of the season. He leaves PSG after two and a half years at the club. He won back-to-back league titles with the French giants and helped them reach the Champions League final last season.

Before joining PSG, Tuchel spent two years in charge of Borussia Dortmund. He had a strained relationship with the BVB bosses and was sacked at the end of the 2016/17 season. Last month, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke described Tuchel as a ‘difficult person but a fantastic trainer’.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to replace Tuchel in Paris. Pochettino, of course, has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in the past. But according to multiple reports in Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Marco Rose is the favourite to take over at the Westfalenstadion next season.
