Kevin Großkreutz believes that Marco Rose could be a good fit for Borussia Dortmund should they choose to appoint him as head coach next season.

Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with a move for Marco Rose in recent weeks. The Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach is thought to be the clear favourite to take over next season. And former BVB star Kevin Großkreutz believes that he could fit in well at the club.

In an interview with Sport1, Großkreutz was asked who his preferred candidate would be to take over at Borussia Dortmund next season.

"“Jürgen Klopp!” (laughs)“Marco Rose could fit in at BVB, he’s a very good coach. He plays attacking football, was successful with Salzburg and with Gladbach from the very first day. I can’t recommend anything to the bosses, but my gut feeling says that Rose could be a good fit.”"

Großkreutz also spoke about the tenure of Lucien Favre, who was sacked earlier this month after Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart. The 32 year old felt that the decision to part ways with Favre was justified, but he did feel sympathy for the Swiss trainer.

"“He was always accused of not showing the emotions that you simply have to show as a BVB coach. But he had the best points average. Favre finished second with BVB in the past two years, but Bayern was also unbeatable.”“I know that the coach is not always solely to blame. The players at BVB are also responsible. Favre certainly made mistakes, but the individual mistakes on the pitch are made by the players.”"

Großkreutz also backed Marco Reus to find his best form again before long. The Borussia Dortmund captain hasn’t been able to make his usual impact this season after coming back from a long-term injury. But Großkreutz is confident that his former teammate will continue to be a key player for Dortmund.

"“Marco was out for a long time, has had many injuries in his career. But he always managed to come back. Before this season, he was also out for a long time, and then of course he lacked match practice.”“Marco will come out of this little slump, I know what a good footballer he is, I played with him for years. He will continue to be important for BVB.”"

Großkreutz also heaped praise on Youssoufa Moukoko, who made his Borussia Dortmund debut just one day after his 16th birthday.

"“The kid is clear-headed and can handle the pressure. The hype is only logical: youngest Bundesliga debutant, youngest league scorer, youngest Champions League player. Wow! The most important thing is that his teammates and the people in charge support and protect him.”"

Großkreutz is currently without a club, having left third division side KFC Uerdingen earlier this year. While he is not ready to retire just yet, he would love to return to Borussia Dortmund after the end of his playing career. “I would be thrilled if I was given the chance to do something at BVB. Hans-Joachim Watzke knows that, too. I will always love this club. It would be great if we could get together at some point after my career,” Großkreutz said.
