Michael Zorc praises ‘workhorse’ Steffen Tigges after Bundesliga debut

Steffen Tigges made his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, and he has now earned praise from Michael Zorc for his performance.
Fresh after playing 90 minutes in the DFB Pokal win over Eintracht Braunschweig last month, Steffen Tigges made his Bundesliga debut on Sunday, coming on as an 81st minute substitute for Erling Haaland during Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Wolfsburg. He came close to scoring his first senior goal with just his first touch of the ball. And Michael Zorc reserved special praise for the tall striker after the game.
"Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Zorc said about Tigges: “He is a workhorse who goes where it hurts.”"
Zorc also spoke about the giant leap Tigges has made since the January 2020 mid-season training camp in Marbella, where he was given his first opportunity in the senior team. “He has made a huge leap. At that time, he was still quite a long way away,” Zorc said.
He had to wait until the final game of the year for his next chance in the first team, which arrived due to injuries to Erling Haaland and Youssoufa Moukoko. But he took his chance well against Eintracht Braunschweig and showed that he can be a valuable back-up option for the senior team.
Ruhr Nachrichten say that it has not yet been decided whether Tigges will receive a permanent promotion to the first team.
The Borussia Dortmund U-23s are due to resume their season on January 17, and they will no doubt need him to lead the line for them. Tigges is the captain and leading goalscorer of the U-23s team, with 12 goals to his name in 18 appearances.
Borussia Dortmund II are battling for promotion to the third tier of German football this season, and currently find themselves in second place in the Regionalliga West standings.
