Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 1-1 draw against Mainz

Thomas Meunier (7.5/10)

Meunier put in his best performance in a Borussia Dortmund shirt in the game against Mainz. He delivered several dangerous crosses in the first half and also did a fairly decent job defensively. He then scored the equaliser in the second half with a well-taken finish, his first ever goal for Borussia Dortmund. The Belgian international then won a penalty moments after scoring the opener, which Marco Reus missed.

He will feel disappointed, though, to have strayed offside in the second minute, which led to Haaland’s goal being ruled out.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Hummels did not close Öztunalı down quickly enough for Mainz’ opener. He looked a bit passive and hesitant at times, especially when Mainz countered with pace. He still managed to make some vital interceptions though, and also completed all but three of his passes. Still, he was far from his reliable best against Mainz.

Dan-Axel Zagadou (6/10)

Zagadou did not do much wrong and had Quaison under control for the majority of the first half. But he suffered a thigh injury on the stroke of half time and had to be subbed off.

Raphael Guerreiro (5/10)

Guerreiro was heavily involved in Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play, but was often too casual and imprecise with his forward passes. He still managed to create a couple of decent opportunities for his teammates, but looked very much off his world-class game. The Portuguese international also forget his defensive duties at times, but did make a vital goal-line clearance to prevent Mainz from taking the lead again in the 78th minute.
