Schalke sink to late defeat against Köln

Schalke 04 suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to relegation rivals FC Köln, putting them eight points behind the relegation play-offs spot. Rafael Czichos gave the Billy Goats the lead in the first half. But Matthew Hoppe responded by scoring the equaliser for Schalke in the second half, making it five goals in his last three games.

But 18 year old Jan Thielmann showed great composure to score the winner in the 93rd minute and seal a massive win for FC Köln.

Labbadia on the brink after Hoffenheim defeat

The future looks bleak for Hertha Berlin head coach Bruno Labbadia after his side suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Hoffenheim. The Berliners had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the first half, but Krzysztof Piatek’s penalty was saved by Oliver Baumann.

And the missed penalty came back to haunt them, as Sebastian Rudy scored the opener for Hoffenheim soon after. A second half brace from Andrej Kramaric sealed a vital win for Hoffenheim, as Hertha Berlin slipped to 14th place despite their heavy summer spending.
