Rumour: Borussia Dortmund expect Jadon Sancho to leave in the summer
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund bosses Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc reportedly expect Jadon Sancho to leave in the summer, as he enters the final two years of his contract. According to Sport1, BVB know that they are unlikely to receive the 120 million euros they wanted for Sancho last summer, and they would ‘probably’ be willing to let him leave for less money this time around.
Manchester United were interested in signing Sancho last summer, but the transfer never happened after they failed to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price. The 20 year old ended up staying at Dortmund, and has six goals and 13 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Sancho continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United, but a number of other clubs are also thought to be interested in signing him.
With Borussia Dortmund suffering from heavy losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they could have to rely on player sales to generate revenue this summer.
Could Borussia Dortmund be set for a transfer overhaul?
Sport1 believe that Borussia Dortmund could be set for a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window, depending on where they finish in the Bundesliga standings this season. In addition to Jadon Sancho, Mahmoud Dahoud, Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel could also be sold in the summer. While Lukasz Piszczek, Marcel Schmelzer and Felix Passlack will leave on free transfers, with their contracts due to expire at the end of the season.
The report adds that the Black and Yellows are interested in signing Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus. While US Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli could be an alternative for the German international. Search is also underway for a potential replacement for Sancho.
One player who will certain stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond the summer, is Erling Haaland. The release clause in his contract does not kick in until the end of next season.
