Defense: Mateu Morey, Emre Can, Mats Hummels, Raphael Guerreiro

Mateu Morey starts at right-back, despite Thomas Meunier’s return to fitness. The Spaniard impressed defensively against Sevilla, and will have a more attacking role against Schalke.

With Akanji injured and Zagadou not yet ready, Emre Can joins Mats Hummels in the heart of defence. Losing Akanji is a big blow for Borussia Dortmund, with key games coming up against Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Sevilla in upcoming weeks.

Raphael Guerreiro was substituted early against Sevilla to give him some much needed rest. The Portuguese international, like the rest of the Dortmund defence, has seen a lot of minutes over the past month. And he is set to start once again on Saturday.
