Borussia Dortmund inflicted further misery on local rivals Schalke 04 this weekend, while the Bundesliga title race just became a whole lot more interesting.

Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the table was cut to just two points, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt. First half goals from Daichi Kamada and Amin Younes gave the Eagles a two goal lead, before Robert Lewandowski pulled one back in the second half. But the Bavarians weren’t able to find an equaliser, allowing Adi Hütter’s side to earn a priceless win.

Borussia Dortmund earned an emphatic 4-0 win over rivals Schalke 04 in what could be the final Revierderby for at least the next 18 months. Goals from Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland (x2) and Raphael Guerreiro helped BVB take home the bragging rights, while Schalke remain nine points shy of safety.

RB Leipzig took full advantage of Bayern’s defeat by earning a 3-0 win away to Hertha Berlin. Marcel Sabitzer scored the opener in the first half, before Nordi Mukiele and Willi Orban sealed the win in the final 20 minutes of the game. The defeat leaves Hertha in 15th place, just one point clear of the automatic relegation places.

Wolfsburg moved up to third place on goal difference thanks to a 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld on Friday. Renato Steffen scored a brace before Maximilian Arnold added a third to seal a comfortable win for the in-form Wolves. Fifth placed Bayer Leverkusen could only manage a draw away to Augsburg, with Edmond Tapsoba scoring a 90th minute equaliser. Florian Niederlechner had earlier given the Bavarian side the lead in just the fifth minute.

Borussia Mönchengladbach continued their disappointing run of form with a 2-1 defeat at home to Mainz 05. Karim Onisiwo gave the 05ers the lead, before Lars Stindl equalised for Marco Rose’s side. But Kevin Stöger scored a late winner to give Mainz a big boost in their hopes of avoiding relegation.

Union Berlin ended their run of five games without a win by defeating SC Freiburg 1-0. Grischa Prömel scored the only goal of the game to take the Berliners up to seventh place in the Bundesliga table. Stuttgart also earned a much-needed win, beating FC Köln 1-0. Saša Kalajdžic’s 49th minute strike proved to be the difference maker for Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side.
