Hans-Joachim Watzke has heaped praise on Jadon Sancho after the 20 year old continued his excellent run of form by getting a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Schalke on Saturday. The Borussia Dortmund CEO believes that the England international is back to his best after starring for the team in recent weeks.

"“He already played a sensational game in Seville and set up Erling with an outstanding chipped ball,” Watzke said in an interview with Sport1. “Against Schalke, he highlighted his current form once again with a goal and an assist. Jadon is doing really well at the moment, he’s back. But that was only a matter of time. All the transfer talk in the summer has already been forgotten.”"

Sancho endured a difficult start to the season, but has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s best performers since the turn of the year. He has six goals and six assists to his name in just 11 appearances across all competitions in 2021.

And Watzke, who felt that transfer rumours linking Sancho with a move to Manchester United affected his early season form, has lauded his “incredible quality.” Watzke also believes that interim head coach Edin Terzic has also played a key role in Sancho’s return to form.

"“As a club, you can do two things in a situation like that: On the one hand, go to the player and be explicit, or be positive towards him and encourage him. Edin did the latter. He has spoken to him a lot.”“Jadon has shown again in the last few weeks what incredible quality he has. We are very happy that he is playing for us.”"

Hans-Joachim Watzke glad that Edin Terzic is staying at Borussia Dortmund

Hans-Joachim Watzke has also had his say on the impact Edin Terzic has made since becoming the interim head coach in December. While Marco Rose will be replacing Terzic in the summer, he is set to stay on as part of the coaching staff. And Watzke is glad that the 38 year old will be staying with the club beyond the end of the season.

"“The team is following Edin. But we had no doubts about that at all. The relationship between the team and the coach is excellent. He prepares the team well for every game. We’re glad he’ll be staying with us after the season. Edin lives and breathes Borussia Dortmund.”"

Watzke also believes that Borussia Dortmund have a realistic chance of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

"“Qualifying for the Champions League is still realistic, of course. That is our declared goal. We are six points behind Frankfurt and Wolfsburg. It’s certainly good that we still have to face both teams. So everything is still possible for us.”"
