Borussia Dortmund suffer big injury blow: Jadon Sancho set to be until April
By Tushar Bahl
Jadon Sancho faces a long spell on the sidelines, with reports in Germany claiming that he could be out until April. According to Ruhr Nachrichten (subscription required), Borussia Dortmund will probably have to make do without Sancho for their next three games (against Sevilla, Hertha Berlin and FC Köln).
If his rehab goes well, the England international could be back in the team for next month’s Bundesliga clash against Eintracht Frankfurt (on April 03).
Sancho has been in excellent form since the turn of the year, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in just 13 appearances. His absence will be a big blow for the Black and Yellows.
Ruhr Nachrichten believe that the chances of Raphael Guerreiro being fit for the game against Sevilla are also slim. But Michael Zorc has told WAZ that Dortmund still have hope of having Guerreiro available on Tuesday.
The Portuguese international received treatment on his left calf on Sunday, but his injury is not as serious as Sancho’s. Both Guerreiro and Sancho suffered muscle injuries in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The newspaper adds that Borussia Dortmund are confident of having Erling Haaland available for Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against Sevilla. The striker had to go off after taking a knock in the game against Bayern Munich on Saturday. Head coach Edin Terzic said after the game that Haaland’s substitution was more of a precautionary measure.
Gio Reyna also missed the trip to Munich, and he took part in a running session on Sunday. It remains to be seen if he will be fit for the Sevilla game.
