The DFL board is considering implementing 14-day quarantine training camps for the 36 teams in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga in order to ensure that all fixtures on matchday 29, 30, 31 can be fulfilled. The DFL has sent a letter to its 36 member clubs highlighting the proposal and Kicker have published excerpts from it.

The letter says that the quarantine training camp would ‘serve to provide additional security measures for three matchdays at the same time’.

According to the proposal, teams in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga would enter the training camp bubbles on April 14. And the bubble period would end on April 26 after matchday 31. Borussia Dortmund are due to face Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Westfalenstadion on April 14. Bayern Munich will take on Paris St. Germain in their UCL quarter-final just one day earlier.

With matchday 30 set to be played in mid-week, the DFL is looking to adopt this approach in order to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks at clubs, which would ensure that none of the matches have to be postponed. The DFL is determined to finish the season in May. The quarantine training camps would be similar to the ones implemented by teams in May 2020 before the season restart.

Kicker report that a final decision has not yet been made on this matter, and it would have to be made at least eight days before the start of the training camp. The DFL has also made rapid COVID-19 tests mandatory on all training and traveling days for players, coaches and support staff of clubs in high risk areas starting from April 01. This is in addition to the two PCR tests that players and staff undergo every week.
