Rumour: Borussia Dortmund set €180 million price tag for Erling Haaland
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set an asking price of 180 million euros for Erling Haaland, who is attracting interest from a number of big clubs across Europe. According to ESPN, the move is designed to fend off interested clubs from making a bid. And the BVB bosses will adopt a ‘hardline tactic’ for Haaland, just like they did last summer with Jadon Sancho.
Jadon Sancho was a target for Manchester United last summer, but Borussia Dortmund refused to lower their asking price of 120 million euros. The Black and Yellows now hope that their valuation will keep Haaland at the club for at least another year, with clubs unlikely to spend as much in the upcoming summer transfer window due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Haaland reportedly has a release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract which becomes active at the end of next season. ESPN add that Borussia Dortmund will resist attempts from interested clubs to lowball them this summer, even if they miss out on qualifying for Champions League football.
Haaland has scored 49 goals in just 49 appearances since joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020. His performances have attracted the interest of a number of big clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 20 year old was asked about his future earlier this week while on International duty with Norway, and said that he is still has three years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract. BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said earlier this month that they will try to keep Haaland at the club for as long as possible.
