Erling Haaland has been named the Bundesliga Player of the Month for April on the back of his sublime performances in recent games for Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian international scored four goals and assisted two more in just five appearances in April. His performances helped the Black and Yellows claw their way right back into the top four race.

Haaland beat out competition from Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram and SC Freiburg duo Roland Sallai and Christian Günter to win the award. The 20 year old has now been voted the Bundesliga Player of the Month twice this season, having also won the award in November.

The Bundesliga Player of the Month award is voted on by the 18 club captains, a panel of experts as well as fans.

While Haaland began the month of April with a disappointing performance against Eintracht Frankfurt, he recovered brilliantly and assisted Ansgar Knauff’s winner against VfB Stuttgart just one week later. He then scored a brace against Werder Bremen, and assisted Marco Reus’ opener against Union Berlin.

Erling Haaland’s best performance of April no doubt came in the six-pointer against VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 31. With so much riding on the game, the striker stepped up and scored a brace to lead 10-man Borussia Dortmund to a crucial 2-0 win over their top four rivals.

The win helped Borussia Dortmund close the gap to fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt to just one point. And with three games to go in the season, the Black and Yellows are well and truly back in the hunt for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
