Erling Haaland, Gio Reyna miss training as Borussia Dortmund begin preparations for Leipzig clash

Borussia Dortmund players returned to the training pitch on Tuesday to begin preparations for this weekend’s crunch Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig. Erling Haaland, Gio Reyna and Manuel Akanji did not take part the training session.
Erling Haaland missed last weekend’s DFB-Pokal semi-final against Holstein Kiel after suffering a muscle injury during the game against VfL Wolfsburg. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the striker received treatment on the training ground on Tuesday and should be ready to take part in team training later in the week.
Gio Reyna and Manuel Akanji missed Tuesday’s training session as a precaution. Reyna has been struggling with a calf injury recently, and only played 45 minutes in the game against Kiel. Ruhr Nachrichten add that Akanji does not have an injury, but was just given an extra day’s rest after being heavily used in recent weeks.
All three players, who have been in impressive form of late, will hopefully be available for this weekend’s home game against RB Leipzig. Having the trio back in time for the Leipzig game would be a big boost to Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Edin Terzic’s side are currently a point behind fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt, with three games left in the Bundesliga season.
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig will also face each other in the final of the DFB-Pokal next week. And the Black and Yellows side will no doubt want to win the trophy for the fifth time in the club’s history.
