Borussia Dortmund have finally confirmed that Felix Passlack has signed a two-year contract extension with the club. It was reported last month that the extension was a done deal. Now the news has finally been confirmed by the Black and Yellows.

Passlack’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the current season, but his new deal means that he will stay with the club until 2023.

Passlack has been at Borussia Dortmund since 2012. He rose through the youth team ranks before making his senior debut in 2016. The versatile full-back then joined TSG Hoffenheim on loan in 2017, but failed to make much of an impact. Loan spells at Norwich City and Fortuna Sittard also followed, before Passlack returned to Dortmund last summer. He impressed during the pre-season training camp and earned his place in the first-team squad.

Passlack has made a total of 13 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season, scoring one goal. His last Bundesliga appearance came all the way back in November, and he hasn’t played for the senior team since coming off the bench in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Sevilla in early-March.

But with Mateu Morey now out with a long-term injury and Lukasz Piszczek set to retire at the end of the season, Passlack could well start next season as Borussia Dortmund’s second-choice right-back behind Thomas Meunier.

Passlack is highly valued by the BVB bosses for his excellent attitude, commitment to the club and versatility. His extension also means that Borussia Dortmund do not have to make signing a new full-back a priority this summer.
