By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund go up against RB Leipzig in this weekend’s topspiel as they look to continue their bid to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund have forced themselves back into the top four race and are now just one point behind fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt. But they must keep their winning run going if they want to have any chance of playing Champions League football next season. On Saturday, they face the team with the best defence in the Bundesliga.

Four league wins in a row have helped Borussia Dortmund close the gap to their top four rivals. And now they are in with a real chance of playing Champions League football next season. The Black and Yellows put five goals past Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal final last weekend, and earned a massive 2-0 win in the six-pointer against Wolfsburg a week prior.
Borussia Dortmund have not lost to Leipzig since 2017, and they will be aiming to keep that run going this weekend.

RB Leipzig have only won two of their last five games in the Bundesliga, a run of form that has seen them drop out of the title race. They needed extra time to defeat Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal semi-final last weekend. And with second place almost in the bag, Julian Nagelsmann’s side do not have a whole lot riding on this weekend’s game.
But the collective quality and resolve of the Leipzig squad means that Dortmund cannot afford to take them lightly. These two sides are also due to contest the DFB-Pokal final next week, and so Saturday’s clash could be the perfect appetiser for next Thursday’s main course.
