Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Marwin Hitz will miss the remaining three games of the season after suffering a knee injury during Saturday’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Hitz underwent an MRI examination on Sunday, and Borussia Dortmund have now confirmed that he has suffered a torn capsule in his right knee. The club have not yet specified how long he will be out for. But Ruhr Nachrichten report that he will miss the remaining three games of the season.

Hitz injured his knee when he collided with Manuel Akanji during the first half of the game against RB Leipzig. The 33 year old was able to carry on until half-time, but had to be substituted at the break. Roman Bürki came on to replace Hitz for the second half, and will now start in goal for the next three games.

Bürki’s future has been the subject of a lot of speculation in recent weeks, with reports claiming that Borussia Dortmund want to sell him this summer. The 30 year old was replaced by Marwin Hitz as the first-choice goalkeeper earlier this season. And Saturday’s appearance was his first since late January. But now the next three games will present him with the perfect opportunity to show his quality.

Bürki has made a total of 21 appearances for the Black and Yellows so far this season. He has conceded 29 goals and kept seven clean sheets.
