Marco Reus announces that he will not take part in the Euros

Marco Reus has ruled himself out of Germany’s Euro 2020 squad, as he wants to give his body some time to recover from what has been a ‘very intense’ season.
In a post on Instagram, Marco Reus revealed that he has made the difficult decision to skip the Euros this summer in order to recharge his body ahead of the new season. The Borussia Dortmund captain also said that the decision was made after consultation with Germany head coach Joachim Löw. He added that he will use the break to prepare for the start of the new season with Borussia Dortmund.
"“After a complicated, exhausting and in the end successful season, I have decided together with the national team coach not to go to the European Championship,” Reus said. “This decision was very difficult for me, because I am always full of pride when I can play for my country. But after a very intense year for me personally and achieving my goals at BVB, I decided to give my body some time to recover.”"
Reus was widely expected to be named in the Joachim Löw’s Germany squad for the Euros. The Borussia Dortmund captain has been in fine form of late, and his performances have been key to the team’s recent winning run. The 31 year old has scored four goals and provided three assists in his last seven appearances. He also won the Man of the Match award in the DFB-Pokal final earlier this month.
Reus only made his return to action after a seven month injury lay-off in September. Still, he has made more appearances than any other Borussia Dortmund player this season. He has played a total of 48 games across all competitions so far this season. So his decision to skip the Euros is certainly an understandable and wise one.

Reus’ decision to not take part in the Euros means that Mats Hummels and Emre Can will likely be the only two Borussia Dortmund players in the Germany squad for the tournament.
