AS Monaco are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki, who is free to leave the club this summer.

Roman Bürki fell out of favour at Borussia Dortmund earlier this season and lost his place in the team to compatriot Marwin Hitz. The Black and Yellows are now on the verge of signing VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Gregor Kobel for a fee of 15 million euros. The 23 year old has already signed a long-term contract, and will be Dortmund’s first choice goalkeeper next season.

Kobel’s arrival means that Bürki will very likely have to leave this summer. According to Sport1, AS Monaco are interested in signing him. However, so far there have been no bids or talks between the two clubs.

AS Monaco finished third in the Ligue 1 this season, securing their place in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The French side are coached by former Bayern Munich trainer Niko Kovac. The report adds that Bürki could well imagine moving to France, and a move to Spain would also appeal to him.

Borussia Dortmund would be open to selling the 30 year old for a cut-price transfer fee of five million euros. Bürki, who joined Borussia Dortmund from SC Freiburg in 2015, made 24 appearances across all competitions this season. He conceded 32 goals and kept seven clean sheets.

Bürki still has two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract, having signed an extension last year. But after an inconsistent season between the sticks, his time at the club appears to be coming to an end.
