Marius Wolf confirms he will return to Borussia Dortmund next season
Marius Wolf has confirmed that he will return to Borussia Dortmund next season after the end of his loan spell with FC Köln.
Marius Wolf spent the recently concluded season on loan with FC Köln and helped them stay up in the Bundesliga. It remains to be seen what Borussia Dortmund’s future plans are with Wolf, but the versatile wide player has confirmed that he will be returning to his permanent club next season.
In an interview with Express, Wolf said that he wants to force his way into the plans of new head coach Marco Rose next season.
"“Even though it was a difficult season, I had a great time here in a great city and with a good team (FC Köln). I want to try again and assert myself under the new coach Marco Rose.”"
It was reported by BILD earlier this week that Marco Rose could take a look at Wolf during pre-season as a potential option for the right-back role. With Lukasz Piszczek now retired and Mateu Morey out with a long-term injury, Borussia Dortmund will go into the new season with Thomas Meunier and Felix Passlack as the two senior right-backs in the squad.
Meunier and Passlack failed to make much of an impression this season. And that could present Wolf with an unlikely chance to stake a claim for a place in the first-team squad for next season. While the 26 year old is more of a winger, he has played at right-back on a number of occasions.
Wolf joined Borussia Dortmund from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 for a fee of five million euros, and has spent each of the last two seasons out on loan. He still has two years left on his contract with the Black and Yellows.
