Borussia Dortmund internationals: Gio Reyna on target as USMNT beat Costa Rica
Gio Reyna continued his fine run of form for the United States on Wednesday, as he helped them earn a comfortable 4-0 win over Costa Rica.
Fresh off their 3-2 win over Mexico in what was a thrilling CONCACAF Nations League final on Sunday, the United States men’s National Team returned to action in a friendly match against Costa Rica. Gio Reyna started on the bench and saw his USMNT teammates race to an early lead.
Highly rated midfielder Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Daryl Dike and Reggie Cannon added to the lead. Gio Reyna then came off the bench to put the icing on the cake, as he won a penalty and then converted it to seal a 4-0 win for his country.
The win caps off a memorable international break for the USMNT and Reyna. The Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder has looked lively in each of his country’s four games, and ends the break with two goals and one assist to his name.
Gio Reyna can now look ahead to some well earned rest before returning to pre-season training for Borussia Dortmund at the start of next month.
Portugal were also in action on Wednesday, as they warmed up for the Euros a 4-0 win over Israel. Raphael Guerreiro did not feature against Israel, but should return to the starting XI for Portugal’s Euro 2020 opener. The defending champions begin their Euro 2020 campaign against Hungary on Tuesday, June 15. Germany and France are the other two teams in their group.
