Thomas Meunier scored one goal and assisted another as Belgium began their Euro 2020 campaign with a straight-forward 3-0 win over Russia.

Belgium took to the pitch in St. Petersburg on Saturday evening to kick-start their Euro 2020 campaign away to Russia. Considered to be one of the heavy favourites to win the tournament, Roberto Martinez’ side did not take long to show their world-class quality. It was Romelu Lukaku who opened the scoring in the tenth minute after taking advantage of some poor defending from Russia.

Thomas Meunier then came off the bench to replace the injured Timothy Castagne at right wing-back. And he made his impact on the game immediately. The Borussia Dortmund right-back reacted quickly to turn the ball into the back of the net after Thorgan Hazard’s cross was parried by the goalkeeper.

Meunier then played Lukaku in on goal with a gorgeous through ball late on, and the Inter Milan striker scored his second goal of the game to seal an impressive win for Belgium.

Borussia Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard played 90 minutes at left wing-back for the Red Devils, and caused a number of problems to the Russia defence. While Axel Witsel did not make the trip to Russia as he continues his recovery from the torn achilles tendon he suffered in January.
