Portugal vs Germany: Predicted lineups for Euro 2020 clash
By Tushar Bahl
Germany go up against Portugal on Saturday as they look to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the Euro 2020 round of 16.
After suffering a narrow defeat to France in their Euro 2020 opener, Germany are under heavy pressure heading into Saturday’s clash against Portugal. And failure to get a result against the defending European Champions would leave them with a mountain to climb in their bid to qualify for the knockout phase.
Germany did show glimpses of their quality against France. But ultimately, their lack of creativity and spark up front meant that they weren’t able to find the back of the net. Joachim Löw’s side now have it all to do against Portugal, who earned a 3-0 win over Hungary in their opening group stage game.
Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt be Portugal’s player to watch, having netted a brace in against Hungary. But Germany will also have to be wary of the likes of Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Guerreiro.

Joachim Löw’s decision to continue with a three man defence has come under a fair bit of scrutiny in recent months. However, it remains to be seen if he will make any changes to his team’s shape. Portugal, on the other hand, will likely line up with a back four.
Germany will be boosted by the return of Leon Goretzka, but Lukas Klostermann and Jonas Hofmann look set to miss Saturday’s contest. Portugal do not have any new injury concerns ahead of the game.
Here we take a look at how Portugal and Germany could line up for their crunch matchday two clash in Group F.
Portugal: Patricio – Semedo, Pepe, Dias, Guerreiro – Danilo, Carvalho – Silva, Fernandes, Jota – Cristiano
Germany: Neuer – Ginter, Hummels, Rüdiger – Kimmich, Gündogan, Kroos, Gosens – Havertz, Müller – Gnabry
