Borussia Dortmund will begin their DFB-Pokal defence away to third division side SV Wehen Wiesbaden in August.

The Marco Rose era at Borussia Dortmund will get underway at the Brita Arena in Hessen, with the Black and Yellows set to take on third division side SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The tie will be played between August 06-09.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden, who finished sixth in the 3. Liga last season, will be aiming to pull off a huge upset in what will be Marco Rose’s first competitive game in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden and Borussia Dortmund have met only once in their history. And it was BVB who came out on top on that occasion, winning 1-0 thanks to Heiko Herrlich’s extra time strike in the second round of the 2000/01 DFB-Pokal.

Borussia Dortmund won the 2020/21 DFB-Pokal, beating RB Leipzig 4-1 in the final. Two goals each from Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland helped BVB win their fifth DFB-Pokal title in May. And Marco Rose’s side will no doubt be aiming to make the trip to Berlin for the final once again this season.

The draw for the first round of the 2021/22 DFB-Pokal delivered several fascinating David vs Goliath ties between Bundesliga teams and lower division clubs. Bayern Munich will face fifth division side Bremer SV. While last season’s runners-up RB Leipzig will go up against SV Sandhausen. Regionalliga side FC Lokomotive Leipzig will host Bayer Leverkusen. And VFL Wolfsburg will make the trip to SC Preußen Münster.
