Borussia Dortmund have interest in Marcel Halstenberg; but talks have been inconclusive

Borussia Dortmund have shown an interest in signing RB Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg. But talks so far have remained inconclusive.
This is being reported by Kicker, who add that Marcel Halstenberg hasn’t received an offer yet from Borussia Dortmund. While RB Leipzig have also not gotten an enquiry on a potential transfer fee. The magazine further reports that this could be due to the fact that the BVB bosses must first sell Nico Schulz before they can think about signing a new left-back.
Halstenberg, who is a boyhood Borussia Dortmund fan and spent two years playing for the BVB U-23s (2011-13), has rejected a contract extension offer from RB Leipzig. And it appears that his future lies away from the Saxony based club. His current contract is due to expire at the end of the upcoming season.
Borussia Dortmund would have to pay a fee in the region of ten million euros to sign Halstenberg this summer. But unless Nico Schulz is sold, it is highly unlikely that they will make a move for Halstenberg. Schulz, who joined the Black and Yellows from Hoffenheim in 2019, has three years left on his contract.
Halstenberg is primarily a left-back, but he is also comfortable playing at centre-back both in a back three and a back four. And his versatility is one of the main reasons why Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing him. There is a high need for defensive cover at the moment, with a number of first-team centre-backs dealing with injuries.
